German Cockroach Pest Control

German cockroaches might look small and cute – well okay, not cute exactly, but certainly less scary than their American cousins – but don’t be fooled. An infestation in your home poses an enormous health risk to you and your family, with the potential to trigger allergies and asthma, as well as spread germs and disease.

As experts in all types of cockroach pest control, we can also dispel the myth that these unsanitary critters originated in Germany. Instead, scientists believe the species once called north Africa or south east Asia home. No wonder they flourish in our Brisbane climate!

Where do German Cockroaches Hide?

Like most cockroaches, they prefer warm, damp, dark places with easy access to food and water, so are commonly found in kitchens and bathrooms.

However one of the worst German cockroach infestations we’ve ever seen was at a home in Chermside, where we found they had been nesting behind a large bookcase in the lounge room. Hidden behind the shelves were thousands of their pepper-like droppings, as well as dozens of discarded egg cases. It looked like they had particularly enjoyed feasting on the paper in the books and magazines, which were also covered in droppings and stains.

You could be forgiven for thinking we had been called to provide cockroach pest control services to a squat or condemned building – yet the homeowners were very house proud, with no idea of the health hazard in their lounge room.

Cockroaches our of Control

How did things get so out of control without the residents realising the magnitude of the problem?

It could be because German cockroaches are nocturnal, preferring to feed and breed when you’re fast asleep. And, they are super-fast and tiny, so can quickly scuttle for cover if you have a chance encounter during the night.

Added to this is the fact that German cockroaches reproduce faster than any other residential cockroach. Female German cockroaches can reach sexual maturity at about six weeks, producing a case of up to 50 eggs every 3 to 4 weeks, allowing the population to multiply rapidly.
